This report -- "Beyond Control: How Social Media and Mobile Communication Are Changing Public Affairs" -- is one of eight Tom wrote for the Foundation for Public Affairs. Others included an early (1999) deep-dive into the Internet's impact on public policy making, an examination of how advocacy groups were using the Internet to influence public policy, and a look at how activists were appealing directly to corporate executives to affect companies' behavior.

Tom entered the world of travel writing with the second edition of Washington, D.C., for Dummies. Later,  with Susan, he added two more DC guides to his resume:  Irreverent Guide to Washington, DC, and Washington, DC, Free and Dirt Cheap. All are Frommer's guides.
